There are some villains that just have that knack for making your blood boil. Then, there are the ones that we secretly love, making us question our moral compass.

1. You instantly knew that Randall from Monsters, Inc. was bad news.

It’s a world inhabited by monsters and he is clearly the worst of them all. He’s snide and kidnaps kids. Do I need to say any more?
2. But Loki was everyone’s favourite from the very beginning in Thor.

A man burdened with glorious purpose. We first met Loki in Thor, and I know you instantly liked him. It's highly likely that you prefer him to most of the Avengers, and his death in Infinity War was devastating. He's cool, suave, and just the right amount of evil where you can still love him. Tom Hiddlestone just sells it so well, and that British villain thing always works. Why are we always the bad guy?
3. Dolores Umbridge is detestable in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Voldemort wanted to kill Harry, and yet I still dislike Umbridge more. There’s something about smarmy villains that I find more annoying. When she went into the Forbidden Forest and met her best friends, the centaurs, I was smiling the whole time. Really deserved a spot in Azkaban.
4. I just can’t help but loveee Magneto in X-Men.

Definitely a villain you sympathise with, and sometimes even agree with. His methods can be a bit over the top, but his reasoning is always solid. His mutant ability is very cool, but it’s his charisma and the way he’s been played which gets me. He’s the high point of the movies. Loves a game of chess too.
5. I don’t think a single Game of Thrones fan was rooting for Joffrey.

No one has managed to enrage me as much as Joffrey did in Game of Thrones. From executing Ned Stark to everything he did to Sansa, I'm sure were praying for Joffrey to nicely disappear from the show. I can't really think of a villain that people hated more than him.
I have to give credit to Jack Gleeson for playing him sooo well. His downfall was horrible but needed.
6. But Kylo Ren had us all torn in Star Wars.

Kylo just seems vulnerable – I can't be the only one who wants to hug and lullabies to him. He did kill his dad, which does put a very bad mark against his name, but you can clearly see someone that’s been manipulated. Tbh by the end, you could hardly have called him a villain, as he redeemed himself. Also, it’s Adam Driver.
7. You can’t help feeling angry when you see Scar in The Lion King.

Who would’ve thought you could hate a computer-animated lion as much as this. He kills his brother and constantly tries to get Simba killed too. A truly awful villain, which made his downfall 10x better. Simba kicks him off that cliff, Street Fighter style and then Whoopi Goldberg comes with her friends and eats him alive. Justice.
8. Although, by the end of Harry Potter, we all loved Snape more than anyone else.

Played by the late great Alan Rickman, Snape isn’t technically a villain but we spend a long time thinking he is. In both the books and the films, he seems to be conspiring to make Harry’s life as miserable as possible. And even then, we all still liked him. I just loveeee the way he speaks.
9. How can we forget President Snow and everything he did in The Hunger Games.

There’s nothing redeeming about President Snow because he is an awful person. He’s all about maintaining the status quo, one that violently oppresses the people of Panem. I just hate that air of self-importance he has about him. He’s also a creep.
10. Sharpay Evans is definitely misunderstood in High School Musical.

She’s nowhere near the level of evil that we’ve been discussing, but she is very much a villain in the film. What’s weird is that she’s more likable than everyone else. Ryan and Sharpay just work hard for their success, they aren’t even evil really. Plus, that Bop To The Top song is too catchy.
11. While Emperor Palpatine deserved everything he got in Star Wars.

He looks a mess and he’s the embodiment of evil within the Star Wars franchise. He’s literally a snake, pulling the strings and whispering parseltongue into Darth Vader’s ears/helmet?. The good thing is we’ve been lucky enough to watch his downfall twice. So that’s enjoyable.
12. I'm sure we can all agree that Maleficent is one that we’ve grown to adore.

A classic villain trope. She was kinda good in the beginning but Stefan had to go and try to kill her. Stefan, Stefan. Having Angelina Jolie play the lead role certainly helps to add to her likeability, and live-action Maleficent is far easier to sympathise with. Unlike this next guy…
13. Commodus is just the worst in Gladiator.

I almost forgot how much I disliked Commodus until I recently rewatched the film. He’s whiny and annoying in every scene he’s in. The complete opposite of Russell Crowe’s Maximus. The number of times he tries to cheat and get power will make you scream at your TV. Also, he is so, so weird towards his sister.
14. Sherlock has one of the best villains in Moriarty.

He’s the main villain for the first series but you can’t help but be drawn to him. His mannerisms and style are just too entertaining. He has that natural charisma we all want in our villains and he’s definitely in my top five. Or maybe he is Rich Brook and I’m mistaken.
15. I couldn’t wait for Voldemort’s downfall in Harry Potter.

Voldemort is pure scum. He’s also kind of captivating, but you definitely don’t want him to win. Ralph Fiennes is nothing less than amazing here, and because his performances are so good, it's not hard to slightly like him and his cute nose. But I was glad to finally see him die after all the shit he’d caused.
16. But the Joker was easily my favourite in The Dark Knight.

Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker is iconic and he’s definitely a villain that most of us love. We’ve all tried to copy his most famous lines. The truth is he always had me half wanting him to win.
“You think you can just steal from us and walk away?”
“Yeah.”
Easily my favourite line.
17. Training Day’s Alonzo Harris is up there with the worst villains to have graced our screens.

Good luck finding a guy as detestable as Detective Alonzo Harris. There’s something about corrupt police officers that makes them 10x worse. Throughout the whole of Training Day, Alonzo just enrages you more and more. There’s no way you could have liked him. Right?
18. But Darth Vader is the best-loved character in Star Wars.

You can admit it, you secretly like Darth Vader. You’ve copied his lines, done that breathing thing, and must have felt sorry for him by the end. His redemption arc is what gets him a pass in my eyes. And his voice. And his confidence in wearing all black. Style icon.
19. And every second that the White Witch is on-screen in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The White Witch/B***h has some front. Using Turkish Delight to bribe people. She also murdered Aslan, and that’s enough for me.
