From batsuits with nipples to armor plated batsuits, we go through them all.

With there now being decades upon decades of Batman iterations on film including Matt Reeves The Batman, I figured it'd be nice to look back on all the batsuits that have made it to the silver screen.

20th Century Fox

Spoiler alert, the batsuit with nipples didn't make my number one. I know, surprising right?

A quick disclaimer: this list won't include Lewis Wilson's Batman batsuit from the serial films from the 1940's so for all you hardcore fans, I'm sorry to disappoint. His batsuit, although it stuck to the early detective comics, just didn't resonate like batsuits below. Much respect to Mr. Wilson for playing the first Batman on film and performing stunts that were daredevil-like in those times.

13. Batman Forever (1995) - The Original Bat Nipples Suit

The original Batsuit with nipples, has been ridiculed by many as director Joel Schumacher decided to take a Greco-Roman approach to the suit and give it a more anatomically correct look.

Although he included the yellow emblem that Tim Burton had in his two Batman films, people were too distracted by Batman's areolas to admire anything else about the costume.

12. Batman & Robin (1997) - Ice Suits

Warner Bros.

A clear toy cash grab, the infamous Batman on ice final act of Batman & Robin  included the Bat trio donning Batsuits that were impervious to ice and was displayed by throwing silver throughout the costumes, although Batman seems to have lost the nipples, the choice of this for his final Batsuit in the film although practical for the story just looked tacky.

11. Batman & Robin (1997) - Batsuit with Nipples Part Deux

I have always been a fan of the all black Batman emblem on the chest but the "Bat nipples" were always too distracting, on top of the close ups of Batman's cheeks as he suited up.

I like this Batsuit better than the original "Bat Nipples" suit but not by much.

10. Batman Forever (1995) - Sonar Suit

Warner Bros.

If you remember the end of this film, Jim Carrey's Riddler destroys all but one of Bruce's batsuits which in this case was his Sonar Suit Prototype that thankfully lost the nipples, and although I wasn't a huge fan of the color I thought it looked pretty cool in its design.

The bigger bat symbol on his chest was a nice touch and it sleekness made it look cool at the time if only the movie was cooler because of it.

9. Batman (1966) - Adam West's Batsuit

The silver age comics gave us the iconic yellow emblem that we saw Adam West don on his classic tv show. As the first Batman film in color, this suit started the yellow emblem wave that we saw the likes of Tim Burton continuing in his films.

Though let's be honest, when I look back it doesn't seem like something that can stop bullets or knife attacks, just a man in a silver age Batman cosplay.

8. Justice League (2017) - Tactical Batsuit

Going back to an armor plating which I can understand due to the Justice League clashing with Parademons, it just looked weird with the goggles on his head and the bulky plating that although makes sense for his protection from the likes of Steppenwolf I wasn't a fan of the overall look.

7. Batman (1989) - Michael Keaton's First Batsuit

Warner Bros.

The classic Michael Keaton batsuit, with the iconic yellow and black emblem that carried over to not only other films but also the beloved animated series is something most millennials will always remember about the suit. Tim Burton clearly wanted to tie in some influences from Adam West's Silver Age Batman costume design along with his own all black gothic take as well.

Although not very practical when it came to fighting as Batman couldn't turn his neck, this classic suit will always resonate with anybody who grew up watching Tim Burtons Batman films

6. Batman Returns (1992) - Michael Keatons Second Batsuit

This sleeker version of the '89 Batsuit had a more armor like look and didn't seem as bulky as what we saw in the previous film.

Although the stiff neck was still a problem as having to turn your whole body is never ideal when fighting bad guys, it was definitely an upgrade. Even the bat emblem looked better in this movie.

5. Batman Begins (2005) - Christian Bales 1st Batsuit

Warner Bros.

One of the first times I can remember being informed on the workings of the batsuit and the technology behind it all was awesome to see, of course it down fall was the stiff neck thats plagued so many batsuits before this one.

The all-black bat emblem on his chest was always looked clean and the trade in of a less bright yellow utility belt made this costume that much more grounded and modern.

4. The Dark Knight (2008) & Dark Knight Rises (2012) - Christian Bales Second and Final Batsuit

After Nolan's first Batman film, they upgraded the batsuit to have an even more military look, trading its bulky design for a slimmer look that was even explained in the film as something that will allow Bruce to have more mobility but would take away some of the protection he had before.

Although Dark Knight Rises made little moderations in some of the cape and lines in the suit the batsuit as a whole stayed the same, and honestly if something ain't broke why fix it.

3. Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice (2016) - Batfleck's Suit

Warner Bros.

I'll be honest as a fan of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns, this suit really gave me the feels. Ben Affleck's stature really filled out the suit with Zack Snyder reverting back to short ears and straying away from the combat armor from Nolans films and giving this a more fitting look to Ben Affleck's physique.

2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) - Armored Batman

Another batsuit straight out of The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel, it was the only way Bruce was ever going to compete with the likes of Superman. The fact they had his eyes light up as well made this live action iteration of the suit even more satisfying as a Batman fan. If only the overall film could've delivered more like the graphic novel.

1. The Batman (2022) - Battinson's Suit

My favorite rendition of all the batsuits that have come out. It is grounded and although it carries the look of armor it is not nearly as bulky as past iterations of the batsuit. Its slender design lends to Batman being more agile and quick while also protecting him from gunshots as we see in the trailer.

It reminds me of the design from the graphic novel Gotham by Gaslight with its cowl giving him even more neck mobility and which really blew my socks off when they originally revealed this batsuit a couple of years ago. I can only imagine where Matt Reeves and his team will go from here in terms of the iconic batsuit.

What do you think of my rankings? Have you seen Matt Reeves' The Batman yet? Let me know in the comments below and let us know which was your favorite batsuit.
