"Growing up, my parents always emphasized the importance of philanthropy — and my mom didn't want me to act originally because she was scared of the industry and all of the horror stories she'd become familiar with," she said.

"I do want to do projects that challenge me a little bit more and put me in situations that I may not necessarily be able to initially relate to, just to push myself and see what I can do," she said.
