"You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone."
Recently, we asked the BuzzFeed Community about TV series finales with the best final lines ever. Here are some of people's favorites!
1. When Friends ended with one last sarcastic remark from Chandler:
NBC
"Chandler saying, 'Where?' It allowed the show to end with one last sarcastic remark. It gave both the actor who lived to make people laugh and the character who liked the same the last laugh. It is also an inside joke, as the Central Perk was torn down."
2. When Modern Family ended with the perfect final monologue from Jay:
ABC
"The short monologue Jay gives to wrap up not only Modern Family as a series but the entire livelihoods of the characters themselves as they show scenes of where everyone’s ended up in their lives gets me every time. Added bonus: the symbol of the lights turning off at each house at the end, with only Phil and Claire’s coming back on. So perfect!!!"
3. When Six Feet Under ended with this iconic quote:
HBO
"[It] epitomizes the true elegance of this show. Six Feet Under beautifully depicts the tightrope we have to walk daily, knowing of our own mortality."
4. When The O.C. ended much the same way as it began:
Fox
"The O.C. has a perfect finale ... At the end, Ryan revisits the past and what his adoption by the Cohens meant to him, and then we flash a few years through their lives and see Ryan (now an architect) [see] a young scared kid just like he used to be and say, 'Hey kid, need any help?' just like Sandy reached out to him in Episode 1."
5. When Boy Meets World ended with Mr. Feeny in an empty classroom:
ABC
"That whole scene where they have the group in the classroom with Mr. Feeny at the head, dispensing his last piece of wisdom for the show. And the final line where Mr. Feeny saw the kids grow up [and] leave the classroom behind, is where he shows how much of an impact those kids had on him — just as much as he had [on] them."
6. When Community ended with Chang coming out after making cheap gay jokes the whole series:
NBC
"Chang coming out as gay to end Community is so perfect."
7. When Sharp Objects ended with Amma revealing she was the murderer all along:
HBO
"Sharp Objects is the only correct choice here. Absolutely chilling moment."
8. When Schitt’s Creek ended with Johnny taking one last look at the town he'd come to love:
Pop!TV
"When Johnny stops the car to see the billboard one last time: 'I just wanted one last look.' It was just a nice way to bring everything around, full-circle and really demonstrate Johnny’s character development."
9. When Crazy Ex-Girlfriend ended with what was basically the theme of the show:
The CW
10. And when The Office did the same:
NBC
11. When Angel ended on a cliffhanger with the remaining members of the team facing impossible odds, but working to fight evil anyway (which was basically the closing theme of the show):
The WB
12. When the last lines of Newhart revealed the entire series was a dream of Dr. Bob Hartley's (from The Bob Newhart Show):
CBS
13. When The Good Place ended with a perfectly silly tribute to Eleanor and the entire show:
NBC
14. When Superstore ended with a tribute to the store and the words "Cloud 9 is now closed":
NBC
15. When Hannibal ended with Will calling killing Dolarhyde "beautiful" before pushing him and Hannibal off a cliff together:
NBC
"Everything that’s led up to those words and what immediately follows them is pitch perfect and one of the best tragic romances of all time."
16. When Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended with the words "What are we gonna do now?" and Buffy smiling:
UPN
"The look on Buffy’s face when they say, 'what are we gonna do now?' gets me every time!"
17. When Lost ended with Jack reuniting with everyone in the afterlife and Locke welcoming him with "We've been waiting for you":
ABC
"[I] don’t care what anyone says, it was a great ending to a weird show."
18. When Wynonna Earp ended with Waverly and Nicole getting married and then creating a home together:
Syfy
"It’s just the most perfect thing and it makes me tear up every time I watch it."
19. When One Tree Hill ended with a callback to the Season 6 finale and a reminder of the message of the show:
The CW
"'With all your heart' from the One Tree Hill season finale. ... I love the ending of this show, but that line makes it even better!"
20. When The Middle ended with the name of the show:
ABC
"When Brick says he didn’t want to sit in the middle and then whispers 'the middle' in the series finale. It was a great callback to his whispering tick from the early seasons and a perfect way to end the show."
21. And finally, when M*A*S*H ended not with a spoken word, but a word spelled out in stones:
CBS
"I know it's not spoken (I think the last spoken word is 'what??'), but the M*A*S*H finale that had the stones spell out 'GOODBYE' that BJ left Hawkeye. It felt like it was also the show's way of saying goodbye to us. ... It was the perfect ending."
