1. First and foremost, the "evil furnace" scene in Home Alone — which was so scary because that moment was completely unexpected.
20th Century Fox
2. But the furnace scene was child's play compared to the "Large Marge" scene in Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Ooof, that was also completely unexpected.
Warner Bros.
3. Can't talk about things that were traumatizing without mentioning the drawings inside of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books — *shudders just thinking about them.*
4. You know what else was also traumatizing? When Grandpa showed up as a zombie in Arnold's dream in Hey Arnold!
Nickelodeon
5. And basically everything about the "Haunted Train" episode of Hey Arnold!
Nickelodeon
6. The episode of Salute Your Shorts with Zeke the Plumber was a whole other level of freaky.
Nickelodeon
7. Also a whole other level of freaky were the episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog where the fetus-like thing whispered, "You're not perfect"...
Cartoon Network
8. ...the mummy ghost that yelled, "Return the slab"...
9. ...and when the horrifying violin girl turned around.
Cartoon Network
10. The Boy Meets World Halloween episode was really, really messed up.
ABC
11. So was the Boogeyman transformation scene in the Disney Channel Original Movie Don't Look Under the Bed, which really went there.
Disney
12. I think we can all agree that the episode of Rugrats with Angelica's "brother" was nightmare-inducing.
Nickelodeon
13. And so was that episode where Tommy turned into an adult baby monster.
Nickelodeon
15. If the theme song didn't make you crap your pants, then the episodes about ghosts...
16. ...and alien abductions surely did.
17. Also, it wouldn't be fair to talk about Unsolved Mysteries without talking about the witness interviews that were very unsettling.
19. Especially with the shot of the swing moving in the breeze as if the ghost of a small child was on it (so creepy with the theme playing in the background).
Nickelodeon
20. AND THE CLOWN!!!
Nickelodeon
21. The clown in the credits was nothing compared to the episode with Zeebo the Clown...
Nickelodeon
22. ...the one with the Pool Monster...
Nickelodeon
23. ...and, of course, the episode with the Ghastly Grinner. LIKE HOW WERE WE SUPPOSED TO SLEEP AFTER THAT?!
Nickelodeon
24. Mr. Toilet Man from Look Who's Talking Too that gave millennials everywhere an irrational fear of going to the bathroom at night.
TriStar
25. Matilda was basically a horror movie for kids. The scene where she gets placed in the Chokey was nightmare fuel.
TriStar Pictures
26. And the scene where Miss Trunchbull is chasing after Matilda and Miss Honey gives me anxiety just thinking about it.
TriStar Pictures
27. Of course, there is no movie that deserves the title Kids' Horror Movie more than Return to Oz. Like, the Wheelers were creepy AF.
Disney
28. And, of course, the scene where Dorothy steals the potion from the room with the heads.
Disney
29. Another scene straight out of a horror movie? The scene where the Grand High Witch reveals herself in The Witches.
Warner Bros / ©Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection
30. Equally as scary was Judge Doom's reveal in Who Framed Roger Rabbit — especially when he did the high squeal voice.
Disney
31. Speaking of high squeal voices, the guy with the prosthetic chin who appeared in the Perfection commercial sounded and looked so sinister.
Milton Bradley
33. We don't talk enough about how scary the Goosebumps TV show theme song was, but even scarier than the song was the part during the opening when the dog's eyes turned yellow.
Lenz Entertainment
34. Of course, we can't mention Goosebumps without mentioning its most frightening character: Slappy the dummy.
20th Television
35. And lastly, the most disturbing thing ever, when your Furby would start talking to itself unprovoked at like 3:00 a.m. (EVIL!)
