1. Aquaman (2018)
Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection
2. Pitch Perfect (2012)
Universal / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Pitch Perfect was so painful to watch. I really tried to watch it, but the story line was super weak, and it just got annoying. I lasted about 35 minutes."
3. Moulin Rouge (2001)
20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Everybody told me how wonderful and romantic it was. Nobody warned me it would contain anachronistic elements that would ruin my suspension of disbelief to such a degree that it was like watching a school pantomime. Just terrible."
4. Bridesmaids (2011)
Universal / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Bridesmaids!!! Please tell me I am not alone in this! It was horrible and not remotely funny! I cannot stand it and don't understand the hype!"
5. The Nice Guys (2016)
Warner Bros / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The Nice Guys with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. I’ve seen a lot of sh*tty movies in my life all the way to the end, but that is the only one I just turned off and walked away. Don’t remember any of the plot, but I know it was terrible."
6. Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
Focus Features / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Wanted to see what the hype was about. Started the movie, realized how terrible it was after 15 minutes or so, and turned it off. Decided to give the book a try. Realized how terrible that was too, and gave up after a few chapters. I don't get it — it's just not good."
7. Deadpool (2016)
20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Just the worst thing I’ve ever seen."
—n75
"I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates Deadpool. Love Ryan Reynolds, but I hate the overdrawn out jokes in his movies."
8. The Nun (2018)
Martin Maguire / Warner Bros / Courtesy Everett Collection
"After about 20 minutes, we walked out of the theater. I knew it was going to be sh*t like all the other ones in the sort of Conjuring universe and all that, but this was just ridiculous. We just sat there whispering to each other, 'Now we're going to see a shadow in the right corner,' and three seconds later, that happened. Then, 'the bell is going to ring in a second,' and three seconds later, that happened, too. It was just laughable at how predictable it was."
9. Men in Black: International (2019)
Giles Keyte / Columbia Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I loved the original and thought it’d be fun, but no, it was terrible. Maybe it was seeing Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) playing lesser versions of themselves. I don’t know. It was awful."
10. The Room (2003)
Chloe Productions / TPW Films
"I was expecting to enjoy The Room, assuming it was a cult movie because it was bad in a kitschy way and because my husband had hyped it up for years. I was actually PISSED after watching it. The horrible-and-not-in-an-endearing-way writing, the misogyny, etc. I’ve never felt that way after watching any other movie, and I still wish I could get that time back."
11. The Lovely Bones (2009)
Barry Wetcher / Paramount / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The Lovely Bones should be on here! They absolutely destroyed the book — it made me so angry, I had to turn it off halfway."
12. Hollow Man (2000)
Columbia Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Hollow Man is the only movie I’ve ever walked out on. Disgusting. I will never watch Kevin Bacon again."
13. The Kissing Booth (2018)
Netflix / Courtesy Everett Collection
"My mom thought it would be like a funny rom-com, so we decided to watch it together. Plot twist: It wasn’t funny or romantic."
14. Divergent (2014)
Jaap Buitendijk / Summit Entertainment / Courtesy Everett Collection
"My wife and I have been having movie nights at home during quarantine and decided to give Divergent a shot since Hunger Games was decent. Watched about 45 mins before stopping. The film (and I assume books) are such a blatant ripoff/poor amalgamation of Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and every other young adult dystopian series that your eyes roll to the back of your head every 30 seconds."
15. The Lobster (2015)
Sony Pictures Releasing International / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Everyone was like, 'OHH it’s so goooood!' It was the most bizarre, pointless wannabe art house garbage. I was so bored I thought I would die."
16. Sausage Party (2016)
Sony Pictures Releasing / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Not halfway, but I couldn't make it past the opening song. I like dark and edgy humor. George Carlin was a favorite comedian of mine. Sausage Party was just...numbing. I remember getting weirdly embarrassed and hoping that my roommates wouldn't hear what I was watching through the walls."
17. Superman III (1983)
Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Showing my age here, but I remember walking out on a Superman movie with Richard Pryor. So ridiculous."
18. White Chicks (2004)
Columbia Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Everyone has always told me that White Chicks is so funny. I gave it an honest college try, and I will never get that time back in my life."
19. Locke (2013)
A24 / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Locke with Tom Hardy. I had to switch it off halfway through because I’d lost the will to live."
20. Nacho Libre (2006)
Paramount / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Actually went to a theater to watch that stinking piece of excrement. Had the belief that, 'Hey, it's Jack Black; it might be funny.' Nope. Stuck it out with the misguided notion of, 'Surely it gets better.' Nope."
21. The Beach Bum (2019)
Neon
"Amazing cast, but it didn't go anywhere, and I watched nearly an hour before I couldn't take it anymore. It made no sense and was so unrealistic. I can suspend disbelief for a lot of things, but this was awful. What a waste!"
22. Getaway (2013)
Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection
"There’s that awful movie with Selena Gomez, Getaway. Came out in 2013, and it’s one of the worst films I’ve ever seen."
23. Due Date (2010)
Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I thought it’d be funny because I really liked Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover. His character was obnoxious, but funny yet tolerable. But his character in Due Date was loathsome to the extreme. I hate it when a comic actor finds a niche and movie studios run that niche to the ground (looking at you Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson). Admittedly, the only reason to keep watching was because of Robert Downey Jr., but not even he could have saved the movie for me."
24. The Counselor (2013)
20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The Counselor with Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem is the first — and ONLY — movie I've walked out on without learning or caring about how it ended. I love Javier Bardem in just about any movie, but that movie was sheer torture to sit through."
25. To All the Boys: Always and Forever (2021)
Katie Yu / Netflix / Courtesy Everett Collection
"To All the Boys 3. I wasn't big on the first two, TBH, but they're alright for light entertainment. The third one was just so boring, and I really didn't care about their 'conflict.' I think I turned it off around the time they visited New York, but I can't remember exactly because I'd zoned out a while before I stopped it."
26. A Fine Mess (1986)
Columbia Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"A Fine Mess (with Ted Danson and Howie Mandel) was not 'Fine' — just a Mess. Ostensibly Blake Edwards tribute to Laurel and Hardy, it was so asinine, I walked out of it minutes into a free showing promoted by the comedy club I worked at. Later, another comic commented on watching me and my date boot it for the door, thinking 'Sh*t, do we really have to stay?' Apparently it didn't get any better."
27. Scary Movie (2000)
Dimension Films
"My sister and her ex-husband dragged me to see it, and I left the theater about 15 minutes after it started. It was just awful. I knew I would end up losing IQ points if I watched it."
28. Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Clay Enos / Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I LOVED the first movie. I can still rewatch it happily. Sure, it had a couple of issues, but overall it was truly the Wonder Woman movie I had waited 40 years to see. Wonder Woman 1984 was TERRIBLE and incredibly disappointing. The script was just god awful and had so many holes. Some of the special effects were just bad, too. Like, you have that kind of budget and this is what you come up with??? I watched it and have zero desire to watch it again."
29. Holmes & Watson (2018)
Sony Pictures Releasing
"I actually sat through the entire thing. Why? I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. I think the thing that hurt the most was that there were a few good jokes and bits in there. When Steve Coogan showed up with a tattoo gun grafted to his arm, I chuckled — especially because Steve Coogan has a talent for taking even terrible things and making them watchable. Everything else, especially everything involving Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly trying to play off each other, was awful. With Will Ferrell in particular, it felt like he kept needing to show up anyone else who was in a scene with him, so he'd just add on to an already terrible joke and keep going. I felt awful for both John C. Reilly and Lauren Lapkus as they both had to do that horrible onion gag. Not worth a watch. See Cats instead."
30. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
Jay Maidment / 20th Century Fox / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The book was so magical and entertaining, but switching the two girls' special abilities in the movie was unnecessary and odd. Plus, in the book, Miss Peregrine is older and matronly, and yet they cast Eva Green."
31. Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)
Columbia Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"It was the only movie I’ve ever walked out on. I honestly don’t remember a whole lot of it. I just remember being so bored and so uninterested in finishing it."
32. Knock Knock (2015)
Lionsgate / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Knock Knock involves, among many things, two women sexually assaulting Keanu Reeves to get him to cheat on his wife. Then, the women acting like some Harley Quinn/Jack Nicholson’s joker from the old school Batman as they hold him hostage. It was atrociously bad and impressively terrible acting by Reeves. Worst acting I’ve seen from him, tbh."
33. The Last Airbender (2010)
Paramount / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The Avatar: The Last Airbender movie. I tried to watch it once, and I managed to force myself to watch it for 15 minutes. I then turned it off and never finished it. Gosh awful. Not representative of the show AT ALL."
"For me, it was after the group of earthbenders did Zumba to levitate a pebble."
34. Charlie's Angels (2019)
Chiabella James / Columbia / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I watched about 10 minutes of it and just could not do it. I was there for the original TV series. I was there for the Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore movie, which was FABULOUS — but the 2019 one just lacked any charisma and energy...In my opinion, the show was simply miscast. After having actors like Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, and Charlize Theron in action roles, the actors chosen for Charlie's Angels (2019) seemed like high school cheerleaders."
35. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
"The Last Jedi — when Leia force-pulled her way through the vacuum of space."
"At first, I was like, 'Oh wow, so that's how they're going to kill off Leia,' and thought it was a decent send-off. But then, the Mary Poppins sequence happened, and I pretty much lost all interest in the movie."
36. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Robert Zuckerman / Paramount / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The second Transformers movie. I can't recall which scene exactly, but it was definitely one of those cringey jokes from those two robots."
"I cut it off as soon as the girl grew a robot tail. Killed the entire series for me. Never saw another one."
37. The Hottie and the Nottie (2008)
Regent Entertainment / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I was in a mall in the UK and got asked to go to a free screening of The Hottie and the Nottie. This had never happened to me before, so I went for the experience...No way I was staying through that monstrosity."
38. Artemis Fowl (2020)
Nicola Dove / Disney+ / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I stopped watching Artemis Fowl at around the time the child says he's better than Einstein and everyone agrees."
39. Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Warner Bros / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Walked out of a movie theatre two hours into its 2.5 hour runtime. It’s literally just a [hot mess], not complemented by Oscar Winner (that year) Eddie Redmayne’s bland performance."
40. The Poison Rose (2019)
Lionsgate / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The Poison Rose. It’s got John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, Brendan Fraser. Twenty minutes in, I got fed up with the bad film noir attempt and switched it off."
"I saw this years ago when it first came out and was so bored with it that I blocked it from my memory. Maybe I fell asleep — I dunno. Then, a few months ago, I saw it on Netflix, didn't even look familiar, but it had Travolta and Freeman so I thought I'd give it a shot. Was 30 minutes in before I realized I'd seen it, and it wasn't going to get any better. So yeah, that movie was so bad, I accidentally saw it more than once."
41. The Spirit (2008)
Lionsgate / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Frank Miller’s The Spirit. It’s completely ridiculous. The story, the dialogue — all terrible. And I have pretty low standards."
42. The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D (2005)
Dimension Films
"Sharkboy and Lavagirl — as an adult. Which sucks, because as a kid I thought it was the coolest movie I’d ever seen, but not even the nostalgia aspect saved it for me after growing up."
"That's the only movie I can think of that is both legitimately 100% a bad movie and needed to be made that way anyway."
43. Kangaroo Jack (2003)
Warner Bros / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Kangaroo Jack is trash, and I was practically crying with boredom when I saw it. And yes, I'm an Aussie."
"Aussie here and I feel your pain. One of the worst Australian movies we’ve had the misfortune of producing."
44. Eragon (2006)
20th Century Fox Film Corp. / Courtesy Everett Collection
"Dragon goes into the sky as a baby, comes down fully grown, and says her name is Sapphira. Just, no. Eragon getting the name from Brom was a HUGE deal later."
"I loved the books so much and was excited for the movies. Why did they have to be so terrible?"
45. Steel (1997)
Warner Brothers
"While in high school, I watched Steel, a completely forgettable movie starring Shaq, with a group of friends on its opening night. About one-third of the way through, we all decided that we weren't going to waste any more of our time watching that trash heap of a movie, so we got up and left. As we were leaving, a bunch of other moviegoers also left."
46. The Internship (2013)
20th Century Fox Film Corp. / Courtesy Everett Collection
"The Internship with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. It felt like a Google commercial with the occasional joke thrown in."
47. Spring Breakers (2012)
Annapurna Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I saw it at the theater with a friend of mine, and we walked out of it 30 minutes in. Can't remember the exact moment, but I just couldn't watch it any longer lol."
48. Boo 2! A Madea Halloween (2017)
Lionsgate / Courtesy Everett Collection
"A girl I was dating at the time and her friends wanted to watch it. I loath Tyler Perry movies, and watching this one was a marathon of the senses of sight and sound."
49. And lastly: Cats (2019)
Universal Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection
"I never slept in a movie theater — until Cats. Five minutes in, my mom, sister, and I were all asleep. It was a good nap though."
"Cats. After three minutes."
