Excuse me while I buy some pins and red string for my conspiracy board.
WARNING: This post contains spoilers for Season 1 of Yellowjackets.
We're likely not going to see more Yellowjackets until November at the earliest, but that just means we have plenty of time to rewatch the first season, obsess over every detail, and fine-tune all our theories and predictions.
Before we get into some of those theories and predictions, here are a couple of things we for sure know about Season 2:
We won't see Jackie (alive) again.
Showtime
"Jackie is very much dead in that scene," showrunner Ashley Lyle said of the scene where Shauna discovers her friend's frozen body in the snow. She added, "You’re not closed off to the possibility of seeing Ella [Purnell] in the future."
This could very well mean adult Shauna will continue having visions and flashbacks of Jackie.
We will see an adult version of Lottie Matthews.
Showtime
Lyle also confirmed that (likely) future cult leader Lottie Matthews made it to adulthood and that she'll appear in Season 2.
Now, on to the predictions and theories!
1. We'll see some full-blown cannibalism.
Showtime
It's been all but confirmed that we'll see the girls finally resort to cannibalism in Season 2. Lyle told The Playlist that she and other showrunners know they've "tried the viewership's patience" with the cannibalism tease in the first episode.
"I’d like to assure everyone that we will not be dragging that out forever, so get ready," she said.
She doesn't explicitly say "there will be cannibalism in Season 2," but I for one would consider waiting another season to show it to be dragging it out.
Plus, now that the team has to contend with the cold and snow — and the food shortage that comes with it — it seems like just the catalyst to drive them to cannibalism.
2. Speaking of cannibalism...what will happen to Jackie's body?
Showtime
The team finding out Jackie has frozen to death is one of the last moments of Season 1, so presumably, we'll see what happens to her body pretty early on in Season 2. Redditor Damn_Fine_Cup_Of proposed that Jackie will become the first person the team eats.
This theory largely got shot down in the comments, with multiple people pointing out that the team will simply bury Jackie's body, or possibly burn it, whether by Viking funeral or on a pyre (like they tried to do when they thought Van was dead).
While I think there are certainly some members of the team who would have no problem eating Jackie, it's hard to imagine Shauna allowing it to happen.
3. Misty and Kevyn will team up to find Natalie.
Showtime
I doubt it'll take long for Misty to realize Natalie has a.) gone missing, and b.) done so involuntarily. Unless her kidnappers went back to clean up after themselves, they left a broken door and Natalie's phone — with a voicemail that suggests foul play — for anyone to find. Either way, as Redditor nowlan101 pointed out, Citizen Detective Misty will probably figure out something is amiss and once again enlist actual detective Kevyn Tan's help.
4. The fate of Shauna's baby will be revealed.
Showtime
Even without the being-stranded-in-the-wilderness of it all, there are a lot of potential outcomes of Shauna's pregnancy. She could miscarry or have a stillbirth; the baby could be born alive and then die or be killed later. Maybe it'll still be around when the girls are rescued and Shauna will somehow manage to keep it out of the papers and put the kid up for adoption. (That last one feels unlikely, but who knows!)
Because we don't have an official timeline for the first season (or which of Shauna's dalliances with Jeff even resulted in the pregnancy), it's hard to say for sure how far along she might be by the end of Season 1. (Though the showrunners revealed that they did consider including graphics to reveal exact dates, they ultimately decided against it because "there seemed to be something useful and effective about a slightly disorienting vibe to what was happening.")
That said, we know the team was stranded for 19 months. I think if we go by Redditor danceswithbong's proposed timeline for Season 1, which suggests it took place over the course of about 4-5 months, there's a good chance Season 2 will also cover that much time.
If that's the case, we'll almost certainly learn the baby's fate in Season 2. If Shauna is able to carry it to term, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the birth ended up being a big part of the season finale.
5. Adam's true identity will be revealed.
Showtime
Adam might be dead (which is unfortunate because Peter Gadiot is very nice to look at), but I have a feeling his story isn't totally over. In the finale, we see Shauna and her husband and daughter (both of whom know about her affair) watching a news report about his disappearance. It probably won't be long before police track down Shauna and the questions start.
My biggest question is: How much was he actually lying about? Was he actually just a guy who fell for Shauna and spun some falsehoods about his education to try to impress her, or were his motives more sinister?
A popular theory that's been going around for a while is that he was a grown-up Javi, and while I could definitely see that before Shauna stabbed him, it feels like an odd move to kill him off before revealing this. But hey, there's a reason (okay, several reasons) I don't write for the show! If Adam really is Javi, I'm sure it'll be explained in a very compelling way.
Whether Adam ends up being Javi, a member of the cult that took Natalie, or simply a random who unfortunately got caught up with Shauna, we'll most likely see the fallout from his murder in Season 2.
6. We'll find out what happened to Javi.
Showtime
On the topic of Javi, he pulls a disappearing act in the season's penultimate episode, running off into the woods while everyone (himself included) is on shrooms. In the finale, Travis goes to look for him, but Javi isn't seen again before the end of the episode. It's hard to imagine the show will go an entire season without addressing where he is — and if he's still alive.
7. We'll discover who the man in the attic is.
Showtime
Long before the Yellowjackets moved into the cabin in the woods, it was occupied by someone else — someone whose clearly long-dead body they discover in the attic. After finding another, smaller plane nearby, they deduce it belonged to this person.
In the finale, when Jackie is drifting off (and freezing to death), she has a dream that at first glance seems real, until Laura Lee appears and speaks to her. We then see a man in the shadows, who tells Jackie, "So glad you're joining us. We've been waiting for you."
All signs point to him being the body in the attic. Up until the finale, the character (known only as "Hunter" on IMDb and played by William Charles Vaughan) had only ever appeared in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in the opening credit sequence, but it sounds like we'll be seeing more of him in the coming episodes.
Showrunner Bart Nickerson told TVLine: "We definitely know who he is, yeah, and we have a whole thing [planned]."
8. We'll find out that Van is not only alive, but still in contact with Taissa.
Showtime
Some people believe Tai is part of Lottie's cult (possibly without even realizing it), and it's a solid theory. Her sleepwalking habit has returned, leading her to do things like eat dirt, climb trees, and potentially sacrifice the family dog (RIP Biscuit) to further her political ambitions. To reveal all this so early on in what the showrunners hope to be a five-season series, though, kind of makes it feel like a red herring.
So what if it's not Tai who's part of the cult, but Van? We saw her acting pretty culty with Lottie at the end of the Season 1 finale, so if she lived long enough to be rescued, it's not a stretch to think she would remain loyal to Lottie in adulthood.
There are hints early on in the season that Sammy has seen Van with his mom during her sleepwalking. Redditor devonrenee7 wrote: "In the ritual room, it definitely looked like there was an outline of a door. Perhaps it's not really Tai, but someone else doing this? I like the idea that it is Van. And in episode 2 I believe, Sammy drew a picture with a red-haired woman..."
Showtime
As Amazingjaype pointed out on Reddit, "Why wouldn't a cult leader like Lottie support a potential political connection? That's a state senator she has in her pocket..." It would make sense for Lottie to use Tai and Van's relationship to her advantage, having Van keep tabs on her and maybe even building the altar Simone found in the basement.
