Twenty-five years later and still willing to do anything for Selenas!

2022 marks 25 years since the release of Selena, the film honoring the life of legendary singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.

The film was and is iconic for many reasons – it made Jennifer Lopez the highest-paid Latina actor ever at the time when she earned $1 million for the title role, it was chosen to be added to the National Film Registry in 2021, and it gave us the memorable phrase, "Anything for Selenas!"

Here's a look at the Selena cast members, then vs. now:

Jennifer Lopez then:

Lopez told Today in 2015 that filming the movie inspired her to record her first album, On the 6.

Edward James Olmos then:

Olmos told Entertainment Tonight in 2017 that he's "never had a more difficult film" to work on than Selena due to the tragic circumstances of the singer's death.

Jon Seda then:

Seda struck up a friendship with Selena's real-life husband, Chris Pérez, while filming Selena, and the two remain close. In an interview with the Houston Chronicle from 2019, Perez said of their friendship, “We’re still super tight to this day. [Seda] had my back through that whole thing.”

Jackie Guerra then:

After Guerra auditioned, another actor was originally cast as Suzette, she told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in 2017, but she stayed determined to get the role, dressing and doing her makeup like Suzette for every gig she booked. She then was asked to audition again when the movie crew decided to recast the part of Suzette, and Guerra secured the role the second time around.

Constance Marie then:

In spite of the fact that she played Selena's mother, Marcella Quintanilla, in the film, Marie is only four years older than Jennifer Lopez in real life.

Astudillo, who was a member of Selena's band, Selena y Los Dinos, actually had to audition before he could play himself in the movie.

Lupe Ontiveros then:

Ontiveros, who was later Emmy-nominated for her role on Desperate Housewives, passed away in July 2012.
