In case you missed it, a sixth installment of Scream was announced on February 3 — less than a month after the fifth movie hit theaters.

These days you gotta have a sequel. I’m coming back for more. #ScreamMovie https://t.co/Wnc6YtVkmX
That's a far cry from the 11 years we had to wait between Scream 3, Scream 4, and Scream — maybe it has something to do with the more than $100 million worldwide the most recent film had already pulled in.
Here's everything we know about Scream 6 so far:
Pretty much everyone behind the fifth movie will return for Scream 6.
Which characters will be back?

So far, no official announcements have been made, but Courteney Cox, who's played Gale Weathers in every film to date, revealed on the Just for Variety podcast that she recently received the script for Scream 6. She hadn't read it yet at the time of recording, but it looks like Gale will definitely return.
What about Sidney?

Back in February, at the Mad Monster Party horror convention, Neve Campbell said during a Q&A that she had been approached about reprising her iconic final girl role once again.
"We'll see," she said. "I'll read the script and see how I feel."
Now that scripts are officially going out, it's likely a matter of time before we find out just how she feels, and whether or not we've seen the last of Sidney Prescott.
As for the other member of the OG trio, unless he appears in flashbacks or he has a secret twin, we have sadly seen the last of David Arquette's Dewey Riley.
And Kirby?

A lot of franchise fans were hoping to see Hayden Panettiere, who played Kirby Reed in Scream 4, return for the fifth movie. While Kirby did sort of make a cameo in Scream this year, in the form of a YouTube interview thumbnail, we didn't actually see the character in the flesh. Still, it did confirm that Kirby survived being stabbed in Scream 4, something fans had been debating for over a decade.
The Easter egg could've just been a tidy way to wrap up Kirby's story once and for all, but in an interview with the Wrap, Tyler Gillett revealed that there had been talks of Hayden appearing in the fifth movie.
"We had a Zoom with Hayden and we really wanted to try to find a way to get her into the movie," he said. "But we weren't able to get all the pieces in place in time... So we had to quickly pivot and Hayden was totally [understanding] about all that."

You never know what will happen in a Scream movie, but maybe this means we'll see Kirby in the next one.
OK, what about the newbies?

Again, no official casting announcements have been made, but it's all but certain that the new characters who survived the fifth film — Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad — will be back for the sixth.
Any additional cast members will likely be announced sometime between now and when filming begins.
Could that lineup include Kristen Stewart?

In an interview with Slant Magazine, the Spencer star talked about being approached to play the opening kill in Scream 4 — and why she turned it down:
"So it’s the Drew [Barrymore] character that gets killed in the beginning... I was like, 'I can’t do a Drew. I can’t touch that.'"
At the time, Kristen had two Twilight movies under her belt, so I personally think she could have pulled it off, but now that she's a bona fide Oscar nominee, maybe she'd feel more confident doing a Drew. She did say in the same interview that, as a fan of the original film, she would give the Scream 6 script a read if it were sent her way (ahem, Radio Silence).
What will Scream 6 be about?

Barring a major leak, I don't see us finding out anything concrete about the movie until the first trailer comes out — and even then we'll only learn so much.
That hasn't stopped fans from theorizing or making plot point wish lists, though.
Some people think that, since the fifth film was a "requel" to the original Scream, the sixth film would logically follow in the footsteps of Scream 2. If that's the case, we can expect to see Tara and the Meeks-Martin twins off at college (likely with protective big sis/former babysitter Sam close by).
And like I said, plenty of folks would love to see Kirby return, and considering how Sidney and Gale's storylines seemed to have reached a natural conclusion in the fifth movie, there are theories that one or both of them might finally lose their longstanding battle with Ghostface.
Considering we lost one of the trio in the last movie, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Gale or Sidney didn't survive Scream 6.

@carouselshotgun Open Scream 6 with Sidney and or Gale dying or going missing, the only logical way to move forward now after doing this 5 times is for her to die but if it's at the beginning it raises the stakes much higher.
My money is on Gale, leaving Sidney to appear once more in Scream 7.
Of course, Neve Campbell has made it clear that she doesn't want Sidney to be killed by Ghostface, telling the Hollywood Reporter she thinks it's important for the character never to become a victim.
"She does represent a certain amount of strength and lack of victimhood, and that means a great deal to people."
Dimension Films
"I’ve had a lot of people come up to me in the past and just say that she inspired them in some way or helped them in their lives in some way," she continued, "Which is not what you normally expect when you’re performing in a horror film. I certainly would hate to see Sidney fall. I think it would be the wrong message."
When will filming start?

On the Variety podcast, Courteney also revealed that she believes filming is going to start this June. If that's indeed the case, and the production timeline is similar to the fifth movie's, filming could wrap before the end of summer.
Where will it be filmed?
Paramount Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection
According to Courteney, filming won't take place in North Carolina again, but rather in Canada. Since it's taking place during summer, it doesn't seem like fans who were hoping to see Ghostface slicing and dicing in the snow will get their wish (at least not yet).
When will it be released?

Paramount just announced that we're getting Scream 6 at the end of March 2023.
