This viral long read in The New Yorker, published in 2019, looks at author Dan Mallory, who wrote The Woman In The Window under the pseudonym A.J. Finn. In the article, journalist Ian Parker accuses Mallory of fabricating aspects of his life, including a claim that he had a doctorate from Oxford, having a brain tumor, losing his mother to cancer, and his brother to suicide. As of 2020, there is a series adaptation in the works starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
