In A Rare Mention Of His Personal Life, James McAvoy Revealed He Secretly Married Lisa Liberati

Even M. Night Shyamalan didn't see this one coming! And by "this one" I mean James McAvoy secretly marrying Lisa Liberati, his girlfriend of a few years!

The couple — who recently tied the knot, the Split star confirmed to the Guardian — met on the set of the 2016 film, which was shot in Lisa's hometown in Philadelphia.

While James starred alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (in a very controversial role, may I add), Lisa worked as the filmmaker's personal assistant. They began a relationship a couple of years later.

The X-Men actor, known for keeping his personal life out of the public eye, didn't offer any additional comment on the happy occasion or his new married life for "fear of creating tabloid fodder."

But when asked if he's "now an honorary Philadelphian," he responded, “Yeah, it’s like a second home for me."

The 42-year-old was previously married to Anne-Marie Duff from 2006 to 2016, a fellow actor whom he met on the set of Shameless (the British version). They share a son, 11-year-old Brendan.

Following the breakup, he told Mr Porter magazine that "one of the things that’s stayed the same is that I still don’t talk about my personal life, really." He continued, "Me and Anne-Marie, when we were together, it was our policy not to speak about each other in public...and that policy still stands. Even separated, we’re still respectful of each other and committed to doing that publicly and personally."
