Though it's a short teaser, there are quite a number of details that hint at what this sequel is about and what it will present to audiences. For this reason, let's break down everything about this teaser for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)!
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
10. It Picks Up Where the Last Film Left Off
Sony / Via youtube.com
Into the Spider-Verse left Miles Morales when he was laying on his bed, listening to music, until he hears Gwen Stacy's voice. In this new trailer, we see the rest of this scene unfold. Though it's implied that this sequel takes place two days after the defeat of Kingpin, Miles's mature appearance also implies that much more time has passed since his first adventure.
9. It's Part One of the Whole Story
Sony / Via youtube.com
One surprising detail dropped in the trailer was the film having "Part One" in its title. While it's not a shocker that Sony and Marvel have already planned for a third film, the "Part One" label implies that this film will feature a cliffhanger ending that will lead into the next film. It could even feature a dark ending akin to Avengers: Infinity War or The Empire Strikes Back, so let's pray for Miles and his friends.
8. All Those Hexagons
Sony / Via youtube.com
The hexagon appears as a recurring symbol in the trailer, and the reason for this most likely connects with a show from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney+'s WandaVision featured heavy use of the hexagon since the Scarlet Witch warped reality with the Westview Anomaly, also known as "the Hex." It appears this shape represents the gateway to other realities, and if it really does connect to the MCU, we could see this incarnation of Miles appear alongside Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
7. Miles Battling Miguel
Sony / Via youtube.com
The trailer surprised audiences by showing Miguel O'Hara (Spider-Man 2099) grabbing and battling Miles across dimensions. It's an interesting twist since he was last seen seemingly recruiting other Spider-Men in the first film, but this could just be an aggressive way of stopping Miles for a little chat.
6. Miguel's Device
Sony / Via youtube.com
When Miguel encounters Miles, he drags him to another dimension using a device on his wrist saying, "928." Fans of Spider-Man 2099 will recognize this number as the name of Miguel's home dimension. While we got a small glimpse of Miguel's home of Nueva York at the end of the first film, it looks like audiences will get to see more of this futuristic metropolis in this upcoming sequel.
5. Gwen Kept Her Hairdo
Sony / Via youtube.com
Gwen's first meeting with Miles infamously ended with him getting half of her hair taken off after sticking to it with his emerging Spider-powers. Though Gwen was mad at him at first, it looks like she stuck with this look after parting ways with him. She even dyed part of her hair pink, which really fits her rock star persona.
4. New Worlds with New Animation
Sony / Via youtube.com
The first film explored multiple forms of animation with the many variants of Spider-Man. The trailer indicates that the sequel will expand on that by presenting alternate dimensions with other animation styles. Miles was already seen swinging through a city in another realm with a unique art style. Who knows what other visually spectacular worlds this film will present.
3. Gwen's Wrist Device
Sony / Via youtube.com
Like Miguel, Gwen is shown with a device on her wrist that appears to have allowed her to travel back to Miles's dimension. This implies that Miguel has already recruited Gwen to his team and that he gave her some of his technology. At the same time, it indicates that she came to recruit Miles to help Miguel fight a new threat.
2. The Web of Life and Destiny
Sony / Via youtube.com
The trailer once again shows audiences the Web of Life and Destiny. Comic book fans know this as the inter-dimensional construct that links all realities together and allows travel throughout the Multiverse. The first film showed Miles gazing into it at the end of his battle with Kingpin, but this trailer now shows him traveling across the multiverse with it just as his allies did.
1. Miles Has a New Suit
Sony / Via youtube.com
Eagle-eyed viewers might have noticed that Miles is rocking a new suit based on the Spider-symbol on his chest and back. This symbol also appears on the screen at the end of the trailer. Spider-Man films have always featured multiple suits for their protagonist to wear (Tom Holland's version doing it the most), and this sleeker outfit indicates that Miles has grown more into his role as Spider-Man. Perhaps Miles will don some high-tech suits courtesy of Miguel and the future he hails from.
