The musical adaptation of Alice Walker's 1982 novel followed Steven Spielberg's 1985 film adaptation; it ran on Broadway from 2005 to 2008, and garnered 11 Tony nominations, with another Broadway run from 2015 to 2017.

You may remember that Oprah was also in Spielberg's 1985 film; this time around, she's in the producer's chair, with Blitz Bazawule (who also directed Beyoncé's Black Is King) directing.
