Of course, this film begins on Halloween night. When a band of thugs gangs up on a man at the train station, we get to see Pattinson make his first appearance as Batman. Emerging from the shadows like a vengeful specter, the Dark Knight lashes out at these goons with sheer brutality until one remains. Yet, despite his violent and vindictive nature, he still lets this last gang member, who had refused to fight, go free, showing that this Batman is not without mercy.

7. Bruce Talks With Falcone

This scene showed Bruce at his lowest point. After learning from the Riddler that his father had inadvertently gotten a reporter killed by Carmine Falcone, he confronts the ruthless mobster as Bruce Wayne. We can see the sadness and the loss of hope in his eyes, and when Falcone confirms the truth, the film shows that even someone as good as Thomas Wayne can have a dark side. It also shows that, even without Batman's brute strength, the Riddler has broken the Bat.

6. Bruce Confronts Alfred

After learning the truth about his father from Falcone, Bruce confronts Alfred about it in the hospital. Alfred tearfully admits this dark secret he kept for so many years, but Bruce's loving guardian still finds a way to comfort and lift him out of his grief. It's an emotional conversation well acted by both Robert Pattinson and Andy Serkis, and after seeing Bruce disregarding Alfred and his advice, it's great to see him finally acknowledge him as his family and that he does have something to lose.

After Batman gets cornered at the Gotham police station, Jim Gordon helps him escape by giving him a key and letting him punch him in the face. The Bat makes a daring escape from the building as he zips to the rooftop with his grappling gun, only to glide back down to the streets in a killer flight suit. And you gotta hand it to him for being able to walk after that epic fail of a landing.

4. Riding the Batmobile

In this exhilarating sequence, Batman chases the Penguin through the streets of Gotham in the new Batmobile. This scene feels like a real-life car chase, with both Batman and Penguin battling each other as they try to get through traffic. But it all reaches an explosive climax when Batman drives out of a fireball and flips Penguin's car over. And the way the Caped Crusader approaches the car with the fire behind him makes him look like a demon coming to send Penguin to Hell.

Here, Bruce attends Mayor Mitchell's untimely funeral, and his silence throughout the scene speaks volumes about his character. Without saying a word, Pattinson conveys the anxiety over the Riddler case, as well as the grief and trauma Bruce went through as a child, especially when he locks eyes with Mitchell's grieving son. But when the Riddler sends a car rolling into the building, Bruce runs over and saves the boy's life, showing that even his civilian persona can't help but protect those in need.

2. Batman Faces The Riddler

Though they've spoken to each other before, Batman finally meets the Riddler face-to-face in Arkham Asylum, where they engage in a battle of wills and ideals. Riddler shows that he knows Bruce's secret identity, but you can see the latter try to feign ignorance for the security camera. While Batman tries to deny that he and Riddler are anything alike, you have to agree that the Caped Crusader has had a harmful influence inspiring Riddler to commit so many atrocities in the name of vengeance. But when Riddler reveals he has one more explosive trick up his sleeve, Batman goes from staunch to desperate as he realizes how badly he messed up.

1. Beacon of Hope

Surviving his fall, Batman lights a flare and helps guide the people out of the watery chaos in a spectacular and inspiring scene. This scene is a turning point for Bruce's character in the film. Having spent most of the film unleashing his anger on the city's criminals, Batman shows that he is truly becoming a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham.
