Once a rising star of Silicon Valley and the youngest self-made billionaire, Elizabeth Holmes was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and nine counts of wire fraud. She was the founder of Theranos, the start-up that claimed to have developed a revolutionary blood-testing system that could run more than 200 test with just a single drop of blood.
Her dream run ended when journalists started sniffing and investigating what some former employees were claiming.

Holmes' partner-in-crime and her former boyfriend, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani was the president and chief operating officer of the company. Part of his job was to keep the company's ugly secret hidden from investigators and keep the whistle-blowers in check.

One of the first employees of Theranos who later became a whistleblower, Tyler Shultz had a personal reason to highlight Theranos' skulduggery. His grandfather, George Shultz was on the board of Theranos and he wanted to save him from the ridicule that would come his way once Theranos fails.
