In a joint statement on Thursday, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass entertainment confirmed that a sixth Scream film has officially been greenlit and that the same writers, directors, and producers — including executive producer Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplays for the original Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4 — will be returning.

The statement read, "We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie [Vanderbilt] & Guy [Busick], and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family."
Radio Silence added, “Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage Wes [Craven] and Kevin so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life,” Radio Silence said in a statement.

There was plenty of uncertainty around whether there would be another Scream movie, especially considering there were 11-year gaps in between Scream, Scream 4, and Scream 3.

Following Scream's box office performance, though, it's not exactly a surprise that another film has been greenlit so quickly.
Over the course of just three weeks, the franchise's fifth film's domestic box office is already higher than what Scream 4 made in its entire run in 2011 (even when you factor in inflation). Globally, Scream has pulled in over $100K.
That's not factoring in how much the movie might make from digital downloads and DVD sales, which could very well be higher than they might have been had the film not been released while Omicron was still looming.
Scream has also gotten great reviews, leading fans to wonder when — not if — Scream 6 would be announced.
Its critic score on Rotten Tomatoes is at 78%, while its audience score is at 82%.
After the news broke on Thursday, fans didn't hesitate to share how excited they are.

No casting announcements have been made, so there's no telling which of the newcomers from Scream will be returning.
Fans are already speculating, though, and it's unlikely that Radio Silence and co. won't want to continue the story they started, which means we'll probably see Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding back as Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad, respectively.
As for the remaining legacy cast, that's a harder call to make. It wouldn't really feel like a Scream movie with Sidney Prescott or Gale Weathers, and Neve Campbell obviously agrees, having told ScreenRant she would love to return for another film. It's just a matter of where their story can go following the events of Scream.
There's also no word on when Scream 6 might hit theaters, but we can always hope that it'll follow in Scream 2's footsteps and come out just a year after its predecessor.
